How I can help

Understanding sexual difficulties

Psychosexual therapy takes a holistic and compassionate approach, recognising that sexual wellbeing is influenced by the body, mind, relationships, life experiences, culture, and physical health. Difficulties are approached with sensitivity, curiosity, and without judgement.

Common concerns include:

  • Low or absent sexual desire
  • Difficulties with arousal or erections
  • Premature or delayed ejaculation
  • Difficulties reaching orgasm
  • Pain during sex or penetration
  • Anxiety, avoidance, or fear around intimacy
  • Differences in sexual desire between partners
  • Unconsummated relationships or lack of sexual experience
  • Impact of sexual trauma on relationship, intimacy and sexual well-being
Psychosexual therapy looks beyond the sexual difficulty itself and explores the wider emotional, relational, psychological, and physical context in which it occurs.

Sexual difficulties may be lifelong or may appear after periods of previously satisfying sexual experiences. They can be influenced by stress, trauma, relationship difficulties, shame, anxiety, cultural or religious beliefs, medical conditions, menopause, cancer treatment, medication, fatigue, or major life changes.

The aim is to help individuals and couples develop greater understanding, confidence, communication, emotional safety, and intimacy. If you would like to explore whether psychosexual therapy could help, you are welcome to get in touch to arrange an initial assessment.
